The iPhone 5s is unlikely to remain Apple’s one and only iDevice featuring fingerprint recognition for long, as an unofficial picture allegedly showcasing the next-gen iPhones and iPads seems to confirm the using of Touch ID tech on all three.
Brace yourselves, new iPhones and iPads are coming. And I don’t mean just Apple aficionados. Android geeks should listen up too, since the highly anticipated sequels for the iPhone 5s, iPad mini 2 and iPad Air are widely regarded as potential trailblazers.
With a larger than ever before display, improved resolution, no doubt upgraded raw speed and a whole laundry list of software tweaks and optimizations, the iPhone 6, aka the iPhablet, may well give Samsung’s forthcoming Galaxy S5 Prime and Note 4 a healthy run for their money.
Meanwhile, a thicker cloak of mystery surrounds the looming iPad mini 3 and iPad Air 2 (tentative names), in part because they’re expected to break cover closer to the holiday season instead of as the leaves start to drop.
Still, as the iPhone 6 puzzle pieces fall into place one by one, the approaching iPad pair must get its own 15 minutes of (pre-release) fame. Enter a dubious photo leaked out by a Taiwanese website and purportedly starring the entire trio of late 2014 iDevices in a lovely family portrait.
Too bad we’re likely looking at dummy units rather than actual prototypes of the iOS-based gear. But hey, these tend to very faithfully replicate the designs of unreleased gadgets nevertheless, especially so far down production lane.
Now, is there anything spectacular the image divulges? Hardly. Both iPads are sharp, slim and elegant, at least at a first glance, and feature Touch ID-integrating home buttons, just like the iPhone 5s and gargantuan iPhone 6.

Hence, security shall be increased on iPad Air and Mini Retina’s follow-ups, along with the spec sheet’s gimmicky aspect. Remember though that iOS 8 opens Touch ID to third-party apps, including PayPal authorization, so snark notwithstanding, fingerprint support may actually become useful.
