Android L coming to HTC One flagships within 90 days of release

HTC was quick to make up for its absence at Google I/O by announcing a 90-day time frame for updating its flagship phones to Android L.

HTC has announced that the HTC One M8 and the original HTC One will be updated to Android L within 90 days after Google releases the new version of the OS to OEMs.

Since the launch of the One last year, HTC has stepped up its game and has offered considerably faster updates compared to other manufacturers. The company gave the same 90-day guarantee when Android 4.4 KitKat was announced, and did keep to its word. However, only US variants of the HTC One received KitKat within the promised time frame, but that will hopefully change this time around.

Android L is among the biggest releases of Google’s popular mobile operating system. It features a new design paradigm titled “Material Design” and revamps the look of Android from the inside out, and also introduces features like notifications on the lockscreen, better performance with a switch to the new ART runtime and enhanced graphics through OpenGL 3.1 support, improved battery life, a Do Not Disturb mode, and more.

Android L will be released sometime in the fall, with developer previews for the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013) to be made available today.
