HOOT! Cooler Master Hyper D92 Crossflow Heatsink Review

Cooler Master has brought out a new heatsink within the Hyper series the D92 to replace the very aging N520.

Things different this time round : LGA2011 mounting, the included fans won't just exhaust air all over the place :P Plus finally a simple and secure mounting system and no more full copper base



















Here is the heatsink shown with the stock CM fans. These are blade master 92mm fans. They're not great fans as I will prove later















This is with my 92mm San Aces (9AH0912P4H041 in other words it's a PWM 9A0912H401)

Mounting hardware







Cheapened sleeving fan splitter ... better that it has it rather than not.







Attaching the 775/1155/1150/1366 backplate is easy with only 4 bolt-nuts since the backplate is already assembled out of the box. I'm using my antiquated LGA1366 system because I don't really have a Z97 motherboard even though I own a 4670K







With 4 more nuts the mounting plate goes on







Screw the heatsink on and it's all done!











Both CM fans are on now! :D







Test system

Xeon L5639 @ 3.6GHz 1.218v

Phanteks Enthoo Pro with stock rear exhaust, 2x AFB1212H up front and an CM Jetflo 120 above the heatsink

Results are in, it's clear that 92mm fan heatsinks there will be a tradeoff between compatibility for smaller cases and performance. It's loud yes because the CM fans are garbage. If it is able to handle my hot proc it should handle at least 4.2GHz i5-4670K



Pros

The top cover can be taken off and painted or modded if you so desire :D

Decent performance

Small so it fits into low profile cases

Revised mounting is easy to mount and applies decent pressure on the processor.



Cons

Crap fan

Possibly steep price for what it is but it won't be brought into SG anyway. What a shame but then again smaller heatsinks are somehow more expensive :confused2
