LG to reveal Moto 360-like round smartwatch shortly

Square is out, round is in!

Out of all the Android Wear-powered smartwatches unveiled so far, the Motorola Moto 360 is the crowd favorite. The reason is obvious: with its elegant design, the Moto 360 actually looks like a premium smart-watch that one would be willing to pay $250+ for.

The*LG G Watch R -*horrible name, by the way – has been leaked to Engadget in the form of a YouTube video from the official LG Mobile Global page. The video shows some of the*G Watch R‘s features including a compass, step counter, and distance meter.

Round Is The Premium Smartwatch Look

I personally am not convinced by smart-watches. Google believes these new devices should act as a hub for Google Now cards: the smart-watch stays quiet until it is absolutely sure that the contextual information it wants to present to you is of certain importance. Fine and handy, however it is when these wearables act as a second way to receive*push notifications that the experience becomes annoying. I am already overwhelmed with notifications on my smartphone, why would I want to see them on my wrist*!

Anyhow, back to the LG G Watch R. The video – embedded below – clearly states it would be announced next week at IFA 2014. We’re looking forward to the event, as we expect to see multiple new smart-watches and smartphones. Stay tuned to VR-Zone!

*The counter-argument says you can deal with those notifications without taking your phone out. However, the vast majority of reviews clearly state most notifications do actually require you to open up your phone anyway since smart-watches have such small, difficult-to-type-on displays.
