HTC’s latest Desire handset may feature MediaTek's octa-core processor

A new HTC device leaked in China reveals a handset that boasts a bevy of colors and MediaTek’s octa-core MT6592.

HTC might be launching a mid-range MediaTek-based device later this year. The device might likely be launched in the Desire series, considering the fact that it comes in a bevy of colors like yellow, orange, cyan and red.

HTC has traditionally used Qualcomm hardware in its entry-level and mid-range devices, but the latest leaks indicate a switch to Taiwanese chip designer MediaTek.

Sony has already used MediaTek hardware in the dual-SIM Xperia C, and it looks like HTC is doing likewise. The MT6592 is an octa-core SoC that features eight Cortex A7 cores that can be individually clocked to 2 GHz.

Other hardware details regarding the HTC device include a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720, 1.5 GB RAM, 8 MP camera and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on HTC’s Sense 5.5 UI. No word on battery as well as internal storage, but the device is said to feature a micro-SD card slot. It is not yet known whether this device is exclusive to the Chinese market, but in an event that it is not, HTC might consider launching the device at the Mobile World Congress next month. It has been rumored that it would cost somewhere around $350.
