If Motorola’s Droid Turbo feels a little small, and you still can’t find the Nexus 6, you may want to wait until halfway through 2015 for the biggest, baddest Droid to date.
It looks like Sony’s Xperia Z4 and Samsung’s potentially groundbreaking Galaxy S6 aren’t the only 4 GB RAM Android monsters prepped for early next year. Motorola, now freed from Google’s shackles and backed by a growingly prosperous, growingly ambitious Lenovo, has its sights set on crushing mobile speed records as well.
The next-gen Droid flagship will purportedly take after the Nexus 6 in “physical structure”, boosting not just random-access memory. Processing power too, thanks to a mind-blowing quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 CPU that’s to fully capitalize on Android’s newfound 64-bit support.
The one rumored tidbit that doesn’t quite make sense is battery capacity. 4,000 mAh is a big number, no question about it, but with 5.9 inches of beautiful Quad HD screen real estate, it’s somewhat, dare I say it, underwhelming.
All things considered, that is, since the much smaller 5.2-inch Droid Turbo squeezes a gigantic 3,900 mAh cell inside a package measuring just 8.3 mm thick. And while it’d be nice to lower that figure to, say, 7 mm, if the profile slimming comes at the expense of autonomy, we’d rather pass.
On the bright side, “insider sources” sharing their wealth of knowledge to the editor in chief at Droid Forums said it’s possible this Nexus 6 “clone” will see daylight outside of Verizon’s confinements. No sooner than Q2 2015, as Qualcomm needs time to ship enough S810 units to all*interested associates.
It goes without saying everything pertaining to this report has to be viewed with skepticism until proven legit. But the intel is sure promising, and not that hard to believe. Fingers crossed, y’all.
