GIGABYTE has introduced a product with a singular purpose of being the fastest gaming GPU system. The GTX 980 G1 Gaming WATERFORCE 3-Way SLI Kit combines three highly overclocked GTX 980 GPUs cooled parallely by a dedicated water cooling unit.
The 3 GPUs take up 2 slots each and come with their own radiators and individual closed-loop water cooling systems. The 3 radiators are housed inside an external unit simply called the “Watercooling Box”, which GIGABYTE suggests can go on top of the chassis. The Box comes with an OLED display showing temperature, fan speed and pump speed on a per-card basis. The Box has dedicated physical controls for managing temperatures and noise. The end result is claimed to be 42.6% lower operating temperatures and 13.1 dB lower noise than a reference cooled 3-Way SLI system.
This is particularly impressive as all three GTX 980s get a significant overclock to 1228 MHz core and 1329 MHz Boost. Memory however stays at 7 GHz. As a whole, the product is sure to break records and might even make Assassin’s Creed Unity playable at Ultra HD.
The GTX 980 G1 Gaming WATERFORCE Kit is expected to release later in December across major markets.
