Researchers create brain control gadget that turns cockroach into biobot

Researchers at North Carolina State University have successfully taken over the brain of a cockroach, steering the creature in just about any directions they deem fit.

Dr. Alper Bozkurt and Matt Shipman attached a small circuit board to the roach’s back and wired it directly to the bug’s brain.* Commands are sent to the bug via special tones that basically steers the creepy 6-legged steed left or right.* There are two types biobot in this army, one being the drones and another being the sensor.* The drones are controlled remotely with the left and right command, and the sensors are used to tell the drones where the sounds are coming from.

The researchers are proposing that we deploy these biobots in instances of natural disasters.* Since the creepy crawly army detects and moves towards sound, we can scattered few hundred and eventually they’ll congregate in the area where the sound is coming from to signal for the rescuers.

Researchers have even added solar power cells to their brain control device to make sure the bugs can crawl around for days at a time.
