Synology launches the DS414slim

The*DS414slim comes with the latest version of DSM and features a portable form factor.

Synology has launched a compact version of the DS414, called the DS414slim. The smaller NAS can accommodate four 2.5-inch drives (max 1.5 TB each) and comes with a full-fledged version of DSM 5.0.

As far as hardware is concerned, you’re looking at a Marvell Armada 370 CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz, 512 MB DDR3 RAM, two USB 3.0 ports and dual Gigabit LAN ports. The weight of the NAS is just 0.6 kgs, which is almost four times lighter than a standard DS414 at 2.2 kgs.

The DS414slim runs DSM 5.0, which allows you to sync files across cloud hosting services, stream media, host websites and manage digital media along with a host of other features. *In addition to SOHO users, the DS414slim is also ideal for SMB users as it allows for 128 simultaneous connections.

The DS414slim is now available globally, and will make its way to the US mid-June for $299.
