Stats released by*cross-promotion network AdDuplex reveal that the Lumia 520 accounts for 30 percent of the entire Windows Phone 8 market.*
In the United States, the Lumia 520/521 has usurped the Lumia 920 as the second-most used Windows Phone handset, reaffirming the fact that it’s the low-end Windows Phone devices that are providing most of the growth for Microsoft’s budding mobile OS. It’s a fact that’s something of an irony, as a race to the bottom (in the price category) is exactly what Nokia wanted to avoid by choosing Windows Phone as its main platform instead of Android, but as the market figures show, high-end Lumias have been unable to capture the imagination of the end-user compared to the budget models.
The*statistics also suggest that the upcoming Lumia 525 will be yet another hit for the Finnish manufacturer – the Lumia 525 sports a faster processor and higher amount of memory over the Lumia 520 while coming in at around the same price point, which should help Nokia move quite a few units, especially in emerging markets. Of course, that doesn’t mean that Windows Phone will immediately grab a larger piece of the smartphone market share, but the low-cost strategy is surely going to help the OS make small yet solid steps towards further cementing its place as the third mobile ecosystem.
