Vsenn challenges Google with its own modular smartphone

Vsenn, a Finnish startup founded by a former project manager for Nokia’s Android program, is aiming to beat Google to the punch with its own Ara-inspired modular smartphone.

The Vsenn modular phone will have four main modules: camera, battery, processor, and RAM.* The later of the two modules will have to be replaced together, taking a bit away from the whole DIY process.* Vsenn, however, promises that their device will have guaranteed updates for 4 years following its initial release.* Additionally, these updates will all be pure Vanilla builds, which means no bloated skins and software to deal with.

The maker of the phone is also promising ‘maximum security’ through free access to a VPN network and the cloud.* “All the data on the phone is protected using triple layer encryption,” according Vsenn’s landing page.

For added customizability, the Vsenn will come with interchangeable back covers that offer a variety of looks and feel.* Vsenn states that the only thing limiting customizability here is your imagination.

So where are the pictures?* At the moment, Vsenn doesn’t appear to have anything for the public eyes yet, only promises of creation of the perfect phone through modular and upgradable hardware.* The startup is hoping they’ll have a tangible product for consumers by March of 2015 for an estimated price of $590.
