A startup called Prynt is bringing back the Polaroid camera, but this time around it’ll be an add-on to a smartphone instead of a bulky standalone shoot n’ print.
The current prototype of the HAXLR8R utilizes Bluetooth to transmit prints to heat-activated paper that are filled with ink.* Currently, the revamped Polaroid shoot n’ print can churn out a print every 50 seconds.* Prynt, however, is aiming to cut that down to just 30 seconds, and for the cartridge to accommodate 10-30 sheets for printing.
We won’t see the HAXLR8R until early next year when Prynt begins their Kickstarter campaign.** Prynt plans on making the gadget available to early backers for $99.* They’re also working on developing a universal model that can attach to just about any flagship 4+ inch handsets—such as the iPhone 6 and Galaxy Note.
Another neat feature the developers are trying to work into the device involves augmented reality.* When a person snaps a picture, the company’s camera app also records a video in that same moment.* The video is then sent to the cloud, and when you bring up the picture in the camera app it’ll show the recorded clip instead of the picture.* So the picture is sort of like a ‘token’ that allows you to access the video clip.
