My one week with the Gigabyte GTX 980

Nvidia recently hosted an amazing event to showcase the new technologies in their new GTX 980 graphics cards which I was lucky enough to attend. At the end of the event, a selected few were given a chance to review graphics cards from Nvidia’s partners. Being a MSI fanboy, I really wanted to review the MSI GTX 980 but unfortunately for me I was given the Gigabyte GTX 980 for review. Im grateful now that I got the Gigabyte model, because now, after spending one week with this card, I can safely say that I am beyond impressed with this card.

Unlike the other reviewers, I do not have fancy hardware to benchmark the card with or to run comparisons, so I am simply going to state the features of the card that I enjoyed and point out the little things that give this card an edge over the competition. I will not be touching so much on the technical aspects of the card as this has been done like a thousand times already. This is my first review and I hope you guys enjoy it!

Note: Hardware enthusiasts will be very disappointed with this simple review I have written. This review is targeted at gamers like me who want to know if this piece of hardware can handle all the games in the world.

First Impression:
Right out of the box I could tell that this was no entry level piece of hardware. This was serious stuff. The box was MASSIVE, which made sense after I took the card out. Packaging is always an important aspect of any product, because packaging is the first impression that the product presents to the buyer. Solid packaging gives the product a solid feel and provides the consumer with peace of mind that the product they are buying is not of subpar quality. Gigabyte does not disappoint in this area. Packaging is adequate and of impressive quality. Feels very well put together and gives the product a premium feel. A good first impression!

The Masterpiece:

It was love at first sight. Once I took the card out of the anti static bag I knew that it was the one for me. It felt amazing in my hands. Amazing is an understatement here. I knew the card was heavy, but I couldn't feel it because the weight felt evenly distributed across the card. Everything about the card screamed premium. The card felt very solid in my hands, probably due to the fact that the exterior was some kind of metal material. It was a huge difference compared to all my previous graphics cards that were made of cheap plastic. I didn't know what I had been missing out on all these years! The cover on the bottom of the card was a really nice addition, making the card feel complete. Having the G1 Gaming logo there was a favourite of mine because I just like companies that go the extra mile to create a logo for their gaming products. It gives gamers a nice warm feeling and makes them feel like they are part of the family. The blue LED wind force logo was a personal favourite feature of mine, probably the best feature in the whole card. It was very aesthetically pleasing and just happened to fit right in with the theme of my blue PC, which was a nice coincidence.

Beastly Performance:
Coming from a beat up old GTX 570 everything this card displayed was mind blowing to me. The games I played just seemed to come to life (because I could finally stop playing in minimum settings). Popular titles that I enjoy like Watch Dogs, Battlefield 4, Titanfall, COD Ghosts, Assasins Creed 4 etc. all ran flawlessly at max settings on the card. It was like a dream come true for me when I saw everything moving across my screen at 60 FPS with no lag. I have to say, the thing I loved MOST about this card was how UNBELIEVABLY silent it was. Gigabyte was not kidding when they said they made this thing silent. Even with the 3 fans this thing is quieter than a mouse. My old GTX 570 sounds like a monster truck compared to this. I cannot emphasise enough how I absolutely love how quiet this card is. Other than that everything works as one would expect it to. Furthermore you can sleep soundly at night knowing that your investment is safe with Gigabyte’s Ultra Durable technology (which is the reason I buy their motherboards).

Final Thoughts:
I can safely say that this card will easily be able to handle anything that you can think off. Games are absolutely no problem for this beast and you will not be disappointed. Gigabyte has really impressed me with their latest graphics card offering and I can feel myself slowly slipping into their warm embrace. Gigabyte really knows how to make their gamers happy!

In conclusion, inheriting the performance-driven DNA of G1, GIGABYTE G1 Gaming Series graphics cards are crafted for perfection in pursuit of the ultimate graphics experience for gaming enthusiasts. G1 Gaming Graphics Cards are forged with only the top-notch GPU. They ensure highest performance without compromising system reliability via the very own GPU Gauntlet technology and Ultra Durable VGA components.*

Besides, combined with the WINDFORCE cooling system and ultra HD support via flexible multi-display innovation, gamers can immerse themselves in the most enriched gaming environment than ever before.

Ok looks like its time for me to start saving up. Hope you guys enjoyed my short review of the Gigabyte GTX 980!
