High Pitched noise from speakers

Hey peeps

I got a new HK Soundsticks system set up on my desk next to my desktop the other day and after connecting them to my Essence STX soundcard I've been hearing a high pitched hiss/noise whenever the speakers are turned on. The speakers themselves are currently being connected via 3.5mm to my headphone out(i'm using the rcas for my headphone's amp). The hissing noise seems to be present all the time no matter what i do to the volume in windows.

Some things i've tried doing, but to no avail:

1) Pluggin the speaker plug into a socket on its own

2) Changing the input from the headphone out to the pre-amp out on my amp

Some things I've noticed:

1) unpluggin the input 3.5mm from the woofers themselves did nothing, noise still present on the satellites

2) When i try to adjust the volume on the satellites, the noise seems to get louder; i.e. whenever my hands are touching the metal(i believe?) volume rockers, the high pitch noise gets louder

3) No noise is heard when pluggin my headphones into the headphone jack, so probably the issue is speakers themselves or the connections?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!! The noise is driving me mad -_- :hissyfit:
