iOS 8 Siri is capable of recognizing songs

And you can thank Shazam for that.

A couple of days back Apple released iOS 8 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. At the time a feature that many people had been waiting for was not switched on. We had heard rumors that Apple inked a deal with Shazam which would tie-in its powerful song recognition system with Siri, the personal digital assistant in iOS 8. It appears now that Apple has flipped the switch on this feature as Siri in iOS 8 is fully capable of recognizing songs just by listening to them for a few seconds.

As one would expect using this feature is very easy. Simply fire up Siri when you hear a song you want the name to and ask Siri to “Name that tune.” The feature also works with commands like “What song is this,” and “What is currently playing.” Siri will listen for a few seconds before it presents the result. If that song is available for purchase via the iTunes Store the result will contain a link to purchase the song.

Tests reveal that this feature is actually quite accurate so expect to get a match almost always. It looks like if the song you’re trying to recognize is available in the iTunes Store, which it probably will be as its one of the biggest digital music libraries in the world, Siri will find a match and give you a link to purchase that song right away.
