iOS 8.1 update fixes existing issues, introduces new ones

The update brings some important fixes but is also breaking features for some users.

Just*a week after iOS 8 went live for iPhones and iPads, Apple has released the iOS 8.0.1 update to fix issues that were plaguing the newest version of the OS. iOS 8.0.1 fixes an issue that was preventing HealthKit apps from showing up in the App Store, addresses a bug that made third-party keyboards deselected after a user enters their passcode, improves reliability in Apple’s Reachability feature, and also takes care of an issue that prevented some apps from accessing photos from the photo library.

However, it’s not all rosy with the latest version of iOS. Users have reported that the update is wreaking havoc with cellular connectivity on their devices – affected phones*are showing a “no service” message and are failing to detect a cellular network even after a reboot. The update has also broken other features, including Touch ID and Wi-Fi connectivity, making iOS 8.0.1 one of the worst updates the world’s “most advanced mobile operating system” has received.

Apple hasn’t made an official statement yet, but hopefully the company will be as*quick at releasing a followup update as it was in releasing 8.0.1.*The full changelog for iOS 8.0.1 can be seen below, though it’s probably a good idea to ignore the update until the Cupertino giant can iron out all the kinks.
