The next generation of television is getting within reach of the masses.
China has long been known for selling cheap imitations of high-quality electronics, but they have significantly altered that image in recent times thanks to companies like Xiaomi, and Oppo. These new-generation companies design, and produce*affordable but equally good if not better alternatives of the same electronics.
The latest example of this is Xiaomi’s new 49″ Ultra HD 4K TV that will retail for a highly reasonable $640 — that’s easily four times cheaper than the competition. It is powered by MIUI, Xiaomi’s custom Android ROM, a 1.45GHz quad-core processor, and 2GB of RAM. There’s 8GB of built-in storage, but you can always use a microSD card if you want to store more data.
We love what Xiaomi has done with the remote. It works over Bluetooth (so range is bound to be great!), and it can alert you if you misplace it. Why did it take so long for TV manufacturers to include this feature?
