Ubisoft is working on two new Assassin’s Creed tittles that will launch sometime later this year.
Earlier this week, leaked screenshots of a new Assassin’s Creed game revealed that the next game in the series will likely be set during the French revolution. Landmarks like Notre Dame and the Seine River were clearly visible in the screenshots, which further reinforced the idea that the game’s location will be France.
Today, Ubisoft confirmed the existence of the game and revealed early game footage in a video. The game will be called Assassin’s Creed Unity and will be available for current-gen consoles like the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. It is likely that the Unity name is not the final name for the title and is just an internal code name for the game at Ubisoft.
According to a user on NeoGAF forums who was made privy to a few details of the game, the main assassin will be called Arno. The game would feature heavy use of handguns and a villa management system that was seen in Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. From the Ubisoft video and the leaked screenshots, the new game looks much more detailed, with enhanced draw distance. This is likely due to the usage of the AnvilNext game engine, which is the successor to the Anvil engine used in games like*Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.
In addition to Assassin’s Creed Unity, Ubisoft is said to be working on another Assassin’s Creed title that is codenamed Comet. Comet will be available for last-gen consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It is unclear whether this game will make its debut on the PC. While Ubisoft has launched a new Assassin’s Creed game every year, this would be the first year where the publisher launches two titles concurrently.
