One of Android’s best features is finally making its way into the stable version of Google’s Chrome browser on the desktop.
Google Now is now available on the*PC, Mac and Chrome OS versions of the search giant’s popular browser, and can be enabled by signing into the same Google account one uses on their Android or iOS device.
Google Now first appeared in Chrome for desktop back in January, but it has been under development for a good part of 2013. Like the phone version, Google Now on Chrome will offer contextual information, including weather, sports scores, commute traffic, package delivery alerts, and event reminders, though some of this info will be based on the user’s phone’s location. The information cards will be visible in Chrome’s notification center (located at the top or bottom of the screen, depending on the OS), and will be synced with those on a mobile device connected to the same Google account.
Google Now for desktop is currently rolling out, though it will be a few weeks before it reaches everyone. The addition of Now to the stable version of Chrome comes at an interesting time – Google’s new wearables platform, Android Wear, will be bringing Now to smartwatches and other such devices in the next couple of months, which means those that are heavily invested in Google’s ecosystem will soon be enjoying the intelligent features of Now on all their devices.
