The PlayStation 4 will start receiving a firmware update to version 1.60 in Europe starting February 4th, gaining support for the PS3 PULSE wireless headsets.*
More than 3 million PS4 units have been sold till date, and it’s likely that many of the early adopters moved on from the PS3 – for those that invested in Sony’s costly PULSE wireless headsets, that move had a considerable downside, as the headsets were incompatible with Sony’s latest console. With the 1.60 update, that incompatibility will no longer exist, and gamers will be able to enjoy the 7.1 virtual surround sound and crystal clear voice chat they had access to on the PS3.
Furthermore, users of the Elite Edition headsets will be able to pair them up with Sony’s upcoming Headset Companion App, which will hit the PlayStation Store in late February. Accompanying the headset compatibility details is the announcement that Sony will be launching the Gold Wireless Headset on*February 10, for $99.99. The Gold Wireless Headset will sport 7.1 virtual surround sound, custom audio modes for specific games, customizable*faceplates, and a noise cancelling microphone for noise-free voice chat.
The 1.60 update also brings the ability to mute the*PlayStation camera, and general stability improvements for an improved gaming experience. Sony hasn’t mentioned when the update will hit consoles in North America and other regions, but with the company battling it out with Microsoft to attract more consumers in the early days of availability of its newest console, it likely won’t be long before the update trickles out to every PS4 owner in order to improve the next-gen console gaming experience.
