Motorola teases new smartphone launch on May 13, could unveil the Moto E

The press invite sent out by Motorola suggests that the company will be unveiling the successor to the value-for-money Moto G.

Motorola has sent out a press invite for a smartphone launch event on May 13 in London, and the teaser text hints at the arrival of the Moto E.

As previous leaks have revealed, the Moto E will offer relatively premium specs at a budget price, similar to the Moto G. These specs are expected to include a 4.3-inch display, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 4GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM, a 5-megapixel camera, Android 4.4 KitKat, and a 1,900 mAh battery. The Moto E is also said to have a microSD slot, the absence of which was one of the very few shortcomings of the Moto G.

Motorola hasn’t provided any details, but the “Priced for all” text in the invite is a surefire indication that the company’s next smartphone will be aimed at the masses. It’s unclear what the exact pricing strategy will be, but if the Moto G’s rock-bottom price is anything to go by, Motorola will be offering yet another device that puts all other low-end smartphones to shame.

Dedicated Google Docs and Sheets apps released for iOS and Android

The two apps are fully compatible with Google Drive and offer offline document and spreadsheet editing.

Google has released standalone Docs and Sheets apps for iOS and Android, with a*Slides app for presentations coming soon.

Google’s Drive app for the two operating systems has always supported documents, spreadsheets and presentations, but has lacked advanced editing options. The Docs and Sheets apps seem to be the first step towards remedying that limitation, though the two*will also go up against QuickOffice, Google’s dedicated Office app.

Both apps support creating and editing documents, whether they are saved on the web or locally on a device, without the need for an internet connection.*Collaborative editing is possible as well, and Google will likely be adding more features through updates if it intends to compete with the*Microsoft Office app recently launched for the iPad.

If a chip launches with no hardware wins, is it really a launch at all?

AMD launched yesterday its mobile followup to Kabini and Temash with a bevy of synthetic benchmarks, but absent were hardware wins.

AMD “launched” Beema and Mullins Tuesday, its latest mobile offerings and a followup to Kabini and Temash. In a nutshell these two chips are repackaged versions of Kabini and Temash with slight bumps in clock speed and features added. But there is one thing missing from this launch: a complimentary announcement of hardware that these chips will be featured in.

Granted, most friendly hardware blogs called this a “preview” but the bulk of the correspondence from AMD and a number of other sites called this a launch so launch it is. There’s not much new in this announcement that wasn’t known before from VR-Zone’s initial report last summer, to AMD’s first official announcement in the fall. Nearly everything about the architecture is the same, and these two chips do not support HSA.

Below are the final clock speeds of the chips:

AMD has also released a series of performance claims based on benchmarks which can be seen below:

As you can see, while AMD has made some sizable performance gains over Kabini and Temash it still falls short of Intel’s mobile offerings — which is why AMD has yet to announce hardware wins for these two chips. An announcement on this matter is promised for AMD’s APU14 conference scheduled for May 15 in Beijing, but considering AMD’s current mobile hardware wins one shouldn’t hold their breath. While Atom is in 229 tablet SKUs — a minuscule amount compared to what ARM commands but an expensive bargain considering Intel’s contra revenue efforts — AMD is in just one.

Manufacturers will be highly hesitant putting an x86 chip — unpopular in the tablet world — into one of their devices without some sort of compelling competitive bargain from the silicon’s owner. Intel can create that bargain with its cash reserves, but AMD can’t do the same. Considering the risk that the unpopular x86 platform presents in the tablet world, the non competitive performance as well as higher-than-Atom power draw of Beema and Mullins, there’s no reason to expect AMD to make any big gains in the tablet world anytime soon. This is a commendable effort on AMD’s part, but not good enough to rack up any hardware wins.

Need some opinions on tweaking rig colour scheme!

Hi guys here is some photos of my current RIG & I'm planning to add in some extra yellow into it to make it have a more MPOWER/Yellowish FEEL rather then a totally blue one. Also maybe neatening the system & WC loop. Currently,it seems like a fully blue themed rig cos of the top and bottom blue leds. If possible i would not like to change the leds out.

MSI Z87 MPOWER MAX

I7 4770k w XSPC RASA cpu waterblock

GSkill RipJawzx 2x2gb cl7 ram

[CHANGE] Gskill ram to Averxir Mpower edition ram(blue led with yellow striped heatspreader)

No choice to get this ive been waiting for months for the yellow led variant to come in but corbell isnt getting any in soon.

[ADD] Second XSPC RS240 or Alphacool nexxosst 240mm RAD to the bottom of case

Removed the bottom drive cage just for this

iWatch mass production has reportedly started

Rumor has it that Apple’s much awaited wearable device has now entered mass production.

There have already been a lot of*rumors about the*component suppliers for Apple’s first wearable device. All rumors had carried indications about impending mass production. If the iWatch enters into that stage now Apple may have enough supply ready by the time it is supposed to release the smartwatch.

As far as the rumor mill is*concerned Apple is going to launch the iWatch at Worldwide Developers Conference 2014. Bear in mind though that Apple hasn’t used this event for a major hardware announcement in years, regardless of the fact that WWDC has served as the launch destination for many iPhones in the past. Even if these rumors are correct Apple won’t actually release the iWatch that same day, week or month. It is actually expected to start shipping units by*fall 2014, around the time its new iPhones are expected.

The company*rarely takes so much time between the*announcement and release of a new device, let alone a potentially game changing one.*Since it would mark Apple’s foray into the wearable device market the company would want the launch to go off*without any problems. Judging its past history it doesn’t seem possible that customers would be made to*wait from June till October at the very least for the smartwatch.

The report claims, citing supply chain sources based in China, that instead of using Printed Circuit Boards or PCBs for the iWatch Apple is instead relying upon System-in-Package or SiP modules.*SiP modules have integrated circuits which are all wrapped in one single package. While this takes up less space inside the device it does have a major disadvantage. If one part of the module goes bad the entire module has to be replaced. This could potentially keep production yields lower and thus create problems for the manufacturer.

Despite all of these rumors Apple still hasn’t confirmed if its building a smartwatch. We can’t expect any hints from the company until its ready to announce something, so lets keep our fingers crossed for WWDC 2014.

Original BioShock looks amazing running on Unreal Engine 4

Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4 heightens BioShock’s immersive atmosphere.

BioShock originally used a modified version of Unreal Engine 2.5 to handle everything. Like other classicgames, it looks great to this day despite running on old technology. A gripping universe of believable characters, and detailed, thoughtfully put-together environments go a long way in helping the game achieve its timeless look and feel.

Now. a curious modder has gone through the laborious task of putting BioShock’s assets into the latest version of the popular Unreal Engine, and boy does it look stunning! Unreal Engine 4 received all sorts of big improvements in the overall rendering department, a vital part of which is of course how lights bumps and bounces off objects. BioShock greatly benefits from these graphical enhancements.

Textures do look a bit off, and some of the models are too reflective, but that’s understandable considering this is hobbyist work.

Besides big budget games, indie game developers are also slowly adopting Unreal Engine 4 for their projects, thanks to new indie-friendly pricing, and policies. We can’t wait for the day when Unreal Engine 4 becomes the visual benchmark for video games!

Nod aims to bring futuristic gesture-control to the mainstream

Nod, a venture-backed startup that is already at advanced-prototype stage, is now offering its gesture-control ring for pre-order at $149.

Gesture control is all the rage, especially with wearable devices gaining ground among both early adopters and the mainstream population. Smartwatches still work on the same principle of touchscreens, like with their smartphone counterparts. But the usual means of controlling wearables is by voice, such as with Google Glass. However, this comes with some limitations, as expressed by the founder of Fin, another crowd-funded startup marketing a wearable gesture-control ring.

Nod, a venture-backed startup, is also offering a ring that controls devices through gestures and swipes. Meant for controlling devices like smart TVs, wearables, and even other connected devices like thermostats, Nod also addresses the limitations of other input methods like voice.

“We took a step back and looked at how we’ve progressed from plug panels and dip switches to the mouse in the PC era, and then touch in the mobile era, and we were like ‘what’s next?’,” says Nod Labs founder and CEO Anush Elangovan. “Speech has always been one part of it, but speech doesn’t work in a crowded room for example, so the next obvious one is gestures.”

Like Fin, the Nod ring connects to devices via Bluetooth, and it uses a mix of different sensors in achieving its goal.

The difference with Nod is that it offers micro-gesture controls through its highly sensitive sensors. It supports subtle swipes and brushes, *as well as two-finger controls, which include rotation of one’s fingers. The ring is more sensitive than the typical gaming mouse,*at about 32K DPI sensitivity, which means developers can take motion and gesture control to the next level. According to the founders, Nod’s API is open for developers, and making software compatible with the ring should be a simple as adding a few lines of code.

TechCrunch says the notable difference with Nod is its backing from two high-profile Silicon Valley VCs, particularly Menlo Ventures and Sequoia Capital. The company is also in its advanced prototype phase with Nod, which means they’re close to bringing the device to production.

Currently, Nod is already accepting pre-orders for $149 apiece, with shipping expected to start this Fall. Check out the demonstration video below.

Apple refreshes the MacBook Air lineup

The 11-inch and 13-inch models have received a slight speed bump as well as a $100 price cut.

It was rumored recently*that Apple might quietly announce the 2014 MacBook Air lineup today and that is exactly what has happened. The new models are now available through the online store and ship within 24 hours. Units have also arrived at the company’s brick and mortar stores.

This is the second MacBook Air refresh in under a year. The last time Apple revamped the entire lineup was in June 2013. It was a major update back then as Intel’s new Haswell processors brought amazing gains in speed and battery performance.*The 2014 lineup is merely an evolutionary update in the sense that it brings the latest Haswell silicon. Nothing else has been tweaked or changed.

Entry level MacBook Air models are now slightly faster courtesy of the 1.4GHz Intel Core i5 processor that replaces the same 1.3GHz processor found on the predecessor. It retains the same 128GB of storage on the base model though it would have been nice of Apple to bump it up. RAM is kept constant at 4GB, I personally would have preferred Apple increasing it to at least 8GB. Those who want these privileges can choose to pay more by ordering a built-to-order unit from the online store. Apple didn’t even include Thunderbolt*2 connectivity in the new MacBook Air lineup.

Its safe to say that the new update is far from impressive and certainly not the MacBook Air update we have all been waiting for. Apple is actually rumored to be working on a 12-inch MacBook Air which will be ultra thin due to its fan-less assembly. This notebook will reportedly have a Retina display which would certainly blow the display on existing Airs out of the water.

Thanks to the $100 price cut the 11-inch base MacBook Air now costs $899. As a result of this cut the 13-inch model is now down to $999.

Google set to launch the Android Silver program, might axe the Nexus line entirely

Google is said to be undertaking a new mobile strategy which sees the search giant axing the Nexus line in favor of a new Android Silver initiative.

Earlier this month, slides unearthed by Android Police mentioned that Google was working on a new Android Silver program that is aimed at showcasing high-end Android handsets at all carrier stores. A section of all carrier stores would feature an Android Silver section, through which consumers can better experience Android devices.

Through this program, Google is trying to gain a modicum of control over the Android ecosystem. Until now, carriers and handset manufacturers have had free reign as far as software customization is concerned, but it looks like that may not be the case in the future. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Google was in talks with Samsung over limiting the amount of customization offered by the South Korean manufacturer on its Galaxy series of handsets. The result is evident on the Galaxy S5, which does not feature as many gimmicky software features as its predecessor.

With the Android Silver program, Google will limit the amount of customization that carriers and offer services to new customers that allow them to transfer their data from an existing handset to their new device. In addition, Google will offer better after-sales service directly to consumers in the form of a live video chat, much like Amazon does with its Mayday service.

According to The Information, the introduction of the Android Silver program would mean the end of the Nexus line. The site claims that Google will be offering a wider range of devices and services under the Android Silver umbrella, and will work with handset vendors in offering devices at subsidised costs. In addition, Google will also lend its assistance to manufacturers so that they can inculcate features like waterproofing and voice recognition in their handsets.

Instead of offering one Nexus device, Google is looking to make available a wider selection of devices to consumers. The main goal behind this program is to offer a consistent user experience to end users. Devices in this program will likely feature an unadulterated version of Android, with a user experience similar to that of current Google Play Edition handsets.

To achieve this, Google is said to be aggressively marketing the Android Silver program to both carriers and handset vendors. LG and Motorola are claimed to be on board, with first devices set to launch sometime next year. Other handset vendors’ participation in this venture is an unknown at this stage as they are heavily invested in making their own Android skins.

Angry Birds creator seeing reduced profits as once addictive formula goes stale

Rovio Games’ profits reduced by a whopping 52 percent last year. Details after the jump.

In a press release received by Mashable, Rovio Entertainment Ltd.*has announced their earnings for the year 2013. The company reported profits reduced by 52 percent – $37 million vs. $77 million in 2012 – while revenue remained essentially flat at $216 million for last year, compared to $211 million in 2012.

There are two big reasons for this: the first, based on Rovio‘s CFO*Herkko Soininen opinion, is that the company is investing heavily into making Angry Birds a full-fledged international brand, rather than just a casual game you play on your mobile device. They are investing millions into projects such as ‘Rovio Stars‘*for publishing innovative indie games, producing animated theatricals, and hiring more and more people so they can, of course, produce bigger, and better Angry Birds’ related products. Soininen calls 2013 a ‘foundation-building year’.

The second possible reason, which we believe in, is that the Angry Birds’ train is running out of steam. The games’ formula of launching birds at pigs while avoiding cleverly-placed obstacles is getting, well, a bit too*formulaic.*Rovio needs to venture out into other game genres if they want to carry on the explosive momentum that they are known for in game development circles.

LG to launch the G3 and G Watch this quarter

LG is going to launch its QHD flagship handset along with its first Android Wear smartwatch later this quarter.

In a press released that followed its earnings,**LG announced that it is looking to continue its strong form in the second quarter “with the release of the flagship LG G3 smartphone” and the G Watch later this quarter.

The LG G3 has been leaked often and will feature a QHD screen, along with volume and power buttons at the back of the device. LG has started the trend of including the power buttons at the back with the G2, and while the button placement was an interesting choice, it was easy to access the buttons with your index finger. This, however, was not the case on the 6-inch G Flex, which also had the power button at the back. The larger size meant that you usually had to reach to access the button.

The G3 rumors indicate that the device will feature a 5.5-inch screen, so it remains to be seen whether the buttons at the back are easy to access. Other details on the G3 include a quad-core Snapdragon 801, 2 GB RAM, 16 MP camera and Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

In addition to the G3, LG announced that the G Watch will also be available in the second quarter. The device is slated for a launch sometime in the month of June, so it is feasible that both the G3 and G Watch will be announced simultaneously. *The G Watch is estimated to cost around $275 (199 Euro).

LG sold 12.3 million smartphones during the first three months of 2014, which is a significant 19 percent increase year-on-year. LG also mentioned that it has sold LTE handset sales were at an all-time high, with the manufacturer selling 5 million LTE-enabled handsets this quarter. Revenues from the mobile division were at $3.19 billion, with net profit at $86.62 million.

Sapphire launches overclocked Radeon R9 295X2

The card that’s already too powerful to have a defined use case gets overclocked by Sapphire.

Earlier this month AMD released the card without a cause, the dual-core Radeon R9 295X2. The extreme niche of 4K gaming can be handled reasonably well by either a Radeon R9 290x or GeForce GTX 780 Ti, and these cards can certainly handle any game at its highest settings at a mainstream resolution, but requirements from stakeholders be damned: AMD needs to ship graphics cards.

Sapphire is pushing things further with the factory-overclocked Sapphire Radeon R9 295X2 OC Limited Edition.Sapphire’s Radeon R9 295X2 OC Limited Edition ships with a factory-overclocked GPU at 1030MHz and 8GB of memory clocked at 5.2 GHz effective. In comparison, the original card has a clock speed of 1,018 MHz and the same amount of memory clocked at 5 GHz effective.

Sapphire’s overclocked card contains the same hybrid liquid and air cooler called ‘Project Hydra’ and the two 28nm Hawaii XT GPUs have been left unchanged.

A price for Sapphire’s overclocked card has not yet been released. Sapphire is also planning to release a “vanilla” version of the card for $1499, the same price as AMD’s reference model.

But the question remains: what do you really need a card like this for?

Is Amazon looking to make its own hardware?

Job listings show that the retail giant is hiring former Calxeda engineers.

Amazon may be the latest organization looking to make custom hardware. The retail giant has hired several engineers who used to work at Calxeda and has job postings on its site that call for microprocessor design expertise.

A look through LinkedIn listings suggest that former Calxeda engineers who made the switch to Amazon have job titles that clearly suggest that Amazon is looking to get into the hardware game. The job titles include Principal Engineer, Silicon Optimization at Amazon Web Services; Hardware Development Engineer; Hardware Design Engineer; Director of Silicon Optimizations at Amazon Web Services; and Manager of Hardware Engineering, Silicon Optimizations at Amazon Web Services.

Patrick Moorhead, president and principal analyst at Moor Insights and Strategy, believes*that an organization would need a CPU architect only if it were looking to make its own custom hardware. If so, Amazon will be the latest organization to secure an ARM license and build its own hardware. However, Moorhead said that investing in creating a hardware infrastructure was a risky bet.

“It is a major investment in the hundreds of millions of dollars to build your own custom core but if you buy hardware like Amazon does, and if you are truly successful at matching your workloads to your processors, then it could pay off. But it’s very risky,” he is quoted as saying to*Gigaom.

Google and Facebook already make their own hardware, and it looks like Amazon will follow suit soon.

Buried Atari 2600 'E.T.' cartridges under New Mexico finally confirmed

An excavation team finally confirms the reality behind one of gaming’s most notorious urban legends.

Whenever someone mentions the infamous gaming crash of 1983 in the United States, the game that is always popularly mentioned is E.T. the Extraterrestrial for the Atari 2600. Never again was a game ever blamed wildly (even excessively) for such a huge catastrophic event, that it had basically became a popular symbol of corporate failure in gaming many decades later.

But one particular famous urban legend of this game was the supposed report or news that truckloads of the thousands of unsold game cartridges were transported, crushed, thrown and buried in a landfill area in Alamogordo, New Mexico. The news, though it confirmed that discarded items and materials from Atari’s factories were indeed*being thrown in the landfill, it*never specified that these were E.T. game cartridges, leading people to speculate and theorize as to what really happened. For many years, it became a sort of mystery, the stuff of legend for gamers.

That is until now. As part of the upcoming film documentary by Xbox that is centered on the first generation Atari consoles, a decisive plan to confirm the urban legend was set in motion after Fuel Entertainment acquired the rights to excavate the area mid-December last year. A team of filmmakers and excavators then went to the infamous landfill site a few days ago. After hours of searching around the area, they finally found where the unopened, unsold cartridges are buried, proving the urban legend to be true after all these years.

The Xbox One TV documentary series itself is scheduled to start around June, so we’ll probably see the final results of their excavation efforts in the first completed episode.

Oppo’s American hype machine

Historical Whois information as well as commercial filings reveal that*OnePlus is a wholly owned subsidiary of*Oppo.

OnePlus won’t be a Xiaomi-style “came out of nowhere” success story. Why? Because the OnePlus isn’t a new entrant into the market.

OnePlus launched its first handset, the One, late last week. The device has been aggressively marketed from the first day of OnePlus’ existence, which was a mere four months ago. There has been a lot of interest in the OnePlus One, and for good reason. The handset comes with a 5.5-inch full-HD screen, 3 GB RAM, 64 GB internal memory, Snapdragon 801, 13 MP camera, Wi-Fi ac and LTE Cat 4 connectivity along with a 3100 mAh battery. Available for just $349, the OnePlus One undercuts every other flagship device by at least $250.

<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet” lang=”en”><p>Is OnePlus actually owned by OPPO? Historical WHOIS data suggests yes: <a href=”http://ift.tt/1lsxJNC; @evleaks (@evleaks) <a href=”http://ift.tt/1knTUTQ 27, 2014</a></blockquote>

<script async src=”//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js” charset=”utf-8″></script>

However, it looks like OnePlus might be just a marketing stunt undertaken by Oppo to strengthen its user base in countries like the US. Over the weekend, noted leakster @evleaks discovered that historical Whois domain information suggests that the admin contact for the OnePlus domain was Guangdong OPPO Mobile Telecommunications Corp., Ltd. Oppo has been doing very well in the Chinese market of late, but has a limited presence in the US, UK and other western countries.

More questions about OnePlus’ ties to Oppo started to emerge after the One was officially unveiled, as the OnePlus One looks strikingly similar to Oppo’s Find 7a. During the unveil of the OnePlus One, journalists asked Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus and former vice president of Oppo the same question: “Why does OnePlus look so similar to OPPO Find 7?” He mentioned that the similarities were due to the fact that both organizations’ “aesthetics standard trends to be similar”, and said that “all phone nowadays look like iPhone”.

Furthermore, a document unearthed by Chinese site ITHome*revealed that OnePlus is indeed a wholly owned subsidiary of Oppo. The commercial filing for OnePlus at the Shenzhen Market Supervision Administration lists Opal Guangdong Electronics Industry as the sole investor in OnePlus.

OnePlus clarified these allegations in a statement: “We understand the confusion as many people are just finding out about OnePlus. But as we’ve said from the beginning, OnePlus is a separately run company that does share common investors with OPPO. One of those investors is OPPO Electronic. OPPO Electronic is an investment company and is not the same as OPPO Mobile. OnePlus is also in talks with other investors.”

At the end of the day, most users would not care about who actually funds OnePlus, and will instead judge the company based on the quality of the One. However, considering OnePlus’ “Never Settle” marketing and the amount of hype it built for the launch of the One, several customers might be irked that they were lied to. What do you think of the OnePlus One? Would you still be interested in buying the handset? Let us know below.

Refreshed MacBook Air models expected tomorrow

The refreshed lineup is likely*to come with a modest specification bump, no major changes are expected.

Apple is launching refreshed models of the Macbook Air tomorrow, according to sources in the know.

It certainly isn’t unusual for Apple to update its Mac hardware mid-way through the year.*Often the changes aren’t major so they don’t require a proper launch event. Apple has announced the launch of new Mac hardware multiple times in the past simply through a press release. So it won’t surprise anyone if Apple*does this tomorrow as well.

As far as the 2014 MacBook Air models are concerned, the 11-inch and 13-inch*models are expected to tout the latest Intel Haswell processors.*The improved hardware would obviously bring modest performance and battery life gains. Other than that, the company is expected to tweak storage options for both models. These are the only changes that Apple is expected to make, and it wouldn’t be wise to get hopes up for anything else.

It is important to note though that models expected to be released tomorrow won’t*have anything to do with the purported 12-inch MacBook Air that Apple is reportedly working on. That particular notebook is expected to be ultra thin due to its fan-less architecture and it*may even have a Retina display. Rumor has it that the 12-inch MacBook Air might not be launched until fall 2014.

The reason why this report seems plausible is*because Apple is known for these*routine Mac hardware refreshes. It won’t be out of the blue. We’ll just have to wait till tomorrow to be absolutely sure.

Galaxy S5 Prime gets listed on Samsung’s Find My Mobile database

Galaxy S5 Prime is slated for an official release in the month of June, which is when LG is said to launch its QHD device, the G3.

Looks like we may not have to wait all that long for the Galaxy S5 Prime to make its official debut, as unnamed officials talking to Asia Today mentioned that Samsung will unveil the QHD variant of the Galaxy S5 in the month of June.

Last week, documents revealed by SamMobile showed that Samsung was working on a QHD version of the Galaxy S5, which was internally called “Project KQ.” While there wasn’t any information as to when such a device would launch, the documents highlighted that the Galaxy S5 Prime, which was rumored to be what the QHD version of the Galaxy S5 would be called, will feature a new Exynos 5430 SoC in addition to an Intel XMM 7260 LTE modem. The interesting thing about Exynos 5430 is that it will be manufactured on a 20 nm manufacturing process.

In addition to the unnamed sources, a model number that was heavily rumored to be the Galaxy S5 Prime, SM-G906, was listed on Samsung’s Find My Mobile service. The service allows Galaxy handset owners to track their devices remotely. *Several versions of the SM-G906 model number, like the SM-G906K, SM-G906L and SM-G906S were listed as compatible handsets for this service.

LG is said to launch the G3 in the month of June, so it is feasible that Samsung will have a handset out that also offers the same features to contend with the G3.

Guide: [REVIEW] GALAXY GTX 780 Ti Hall of Fame (HOF)

GALAXY GTX 780 Ti Hall of Fame (HOF) - Performance Test

Introduction

The GTX 780 Ti Hall of Fame (HOF) is the top-end graphics card from GALAXY. GALAXY claims that the GTX 780 Ti HOF will be the highest performing GTX 780 Ti out of the box, though this crown has been overthrown by the mighty EVGA GTX 780 Ti Classified K|NGP|N Edition few months later. This graphics card features a custom 2.5-slot dual fan cooler and hybrid heat pipe with Vapor Chamber cooling technology to ensure excellent cooling performance. The Hyper Boost hardware overdrive switch supercharges the card’s clock speed to the next level of performance. The GTX 780 Ti HOF combines extraordinary power and cooling performance to provide an entirely new class of graphics performance. It is every overclocker’s dream card and I am so lucky to get a hand on it and have it benched on my test rig.

Product Link: Galaxy

Specifications

Full specifications can be found HERE

GPU-Z Information

On paper there is no doubt that the GTX 780 Ti HOF is indeed a monster. The graphics card offers 2880 stream processors, 48 ROPs, 240 TMUs, and 3 GB of GDDR5 memory on a 384-bit memory bus. Featuring NVIDIA GPU Boost 2.0 technology, the graphics card has a GPU base clock of 1020 MHz, a boost clock of 1085 MHz and the video memory is clocked at 1750 MHz (7000 MHz effective).

Unboxing

The GTX 780 Ti HOF ships in a white box featuring HOF design.

The back of the box describes some of the key features and specifications of the graphics card.

The GTX 780 Ti HOF features a 10-layer signature white PCB and 2.5-slot thick grey coloured cooler along with a pair of 90 mm low noise EBR liquid bearing fans on board.

The cooler is a The “Hall of Fame” logo on the cooler has a white LED backlight that pulsates when running. That looks stunning!

The NVIDIA GK110 Revision B1 GPU chip is soldered at the middle of the graphics card. For record, GK110 was first introduced as a Tesla-only product for powering demanding GPU compute applications. NVIDIA has now also released it as a GeForce GPU. It uses 7.1 billion transistors on a die size that we measured to be 561 mm². The GPU is produced on a 28 nanometer process at TSMC, Taiwan.

The GTX 780 Ti HOF is equipped with a 10-phase VRM, which uses CHiL CHL8318 controller, IR3550 PowIRstage DrMOS chips, and a total current output capability of 480A. All of these power delivery features should be adequate for extreme overclocking session.

The memory chips are based on Hynix-AFR GDDR5 that are known to have a great overclock ability.

The graphics card draws power from a pair of white 8-pin PCIe power connectors.

The SLI connectors are available for multi-GPU configurations that support up to 4-way SLI.

The I/O panel includes two DVI ports, an HDMI port and a DisplayPort 1.2. These four interfaces support up to four monitors simultaneously for 3D Surround setup. Besides that, we have an exclusive Hyper Boost button which will turbocharge the clock speed when pushed.

The aluminum backplate’s unique design not only adds some aesthetic looks to the graphic card but also provides extra rigidity to the PCB. This is a welcomed addition to this new series of HOF graphics card.

The Hall of Fame cooler features a large aluminium fin heatsink, which is connected with four nickel-plated copper heat pipes measuring 8 mm in diameter to dissipate the heat efficiently. GALAXY utilizes the Vapor Chamber technology which is known to perform better than regular cooling solutions.

Included in the box is a pair of dual 4-pin-molex-to-8-pin-PCie Y-adapter, a user manual, a quick setup guide, the driver/utility CD, a DVI-to-D-sub adapter, a door hanger and a unique GALAXY paper figure.
