Guide: XRCD, HDCD, SACD

Hi everyone,

Just want to clarify and ask about these other variants of the Compact Disc - HDCD, XRCD, SACD. Coz I've been re-acquiring the Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Bossa Nova tracks which I used to buy during my NSF and early NUS days...those days I wasn't in audio yet and so all the CDs were in bad condition and I didn't know what is a good recording.

Ok so fast forward to the present, I've been going to my friend's father CD store in adelphi to buy these artists. So far so good, the normal CDs he recommended me were recorded well as ripped and played on my system. However, he has more of the SACD, HDCD and XRCD than normal CD.

So my question is this:

Playing and ripping HDCD, XRCD:

- Can a normal CD player in our desktop PCs play and rip at their higher than Red Line spec?

- Or I need to use PCM / DSD compatible thingy to fully exploit these CDs?

If I need a CD player to fully exploit these CDs - anyone can recommend me 1 within 2000 SGD?

The uncle sells a TEAC SACD Player at 1100+ which I don't mind but I haven't experienced TEAC sound. More comfortable with brands like Rega, Musical Fidelity of Cambridge Audio

Thanks everyone
