HOOT! CoolerMaster Nepton 140XL 140mm AIO



Just recently, CM launched the Nepton 140XL featuring Jetflo-style 140mm fans.

Today I am going to review it after buying it today.

For those asking, this AIO is meant as a gift for someone as why would I buy a AIO when I already have radiators on the way with all the full water gear ;)

1) A short overview



AIOs are not so much aimed at the extreme overclockers but those with silence in mind, so while some of them have very weak pumps but mostly aimed at silence if you don't push the absolute limits of the AIO

140mm AIOs though? You can have a moderate overclock and still enjoy silence. That is if you don't ramp the fans up to full speed. That wrecks havoc on ears especially with Corsair AIO stock fans





2) What do I really want to talk about?



The "Jetflo-style" 140 fans. But also that radiator accepts 120mm fans as well but I have a theory about how 140mm fans might not be better than 120mm as case fans

Case in point :

Deepcool UF140 vs Deepcool UF120 1300rpm non-rubber version

1200rpm vs 1300rpm

Both put out the same airflow behind a switch 810 front filter but the GF140 is louder than the UF120 at that RPM. Don't forget that the switch 810 front filter is of quite high quality as well

140mm radiators are different because of their heat transfer gradient from being larger allowing more surface area but also allowing better heat transfer even with lower overall CFM from a 140mm fan vs a 120mm fan on a 120mm equally dense radiator



It has a pretty powerful pump for a small AIO like that. It runs @ 7300rpm while that sounds like a lot and worry it might be noisy don't worry. It might be whiny but once I close my case's side panel I won't hear it anymore

3) Individual Component Overview



The fan.

Okay, I don't really like it because it has a rifle bearing instead of a POM bearing but it's still better than a Corsair H90's spec-less fan

It comes with TWO 140mm of those fans actually which makes it pretty good value.

Here are my testing results on full speed : 39.5dBa 125CFM 3.4mmH2O (Eh seriously how does a 140mm fan have more static pressure than its 120mm brethren? Maybe they sacrificed ultimate CFM for more static pressure. Which a 140mm fan really needs!)

Static pressure is a little far off but I've seen worse. Very good for a 140mm fan



The AIO itself.

I'll be lying if I say I don't like the build quality. The backplate is metal unlike Corsair's plastic backplate



The mounting system

It's a good mounting system. All you have to do slide the metal pins into the backplate and then lock it with the plastic clips and adjust accordingly, then screw the fine threaded very short screws into the 2 holding arms on the pump side. After that use the thumb nuts to tighten down the waterblock



The pump

Yes, it's a little bit whiny with my side panel closed but it's fine with it closed. Mind you that was with all other fans OFF. and my ambient noise level is at its minimum.







4) Actual shots and opinion



What's inside the box. Warranty Information and a small ... NAH I MEANT HUGE! installation manual.



Starting with the waterblock-pump, CoolerMaster has placed their logo right in the middle of the pump, inside the LED ring. Will be shown later



The waterblock side. Notice that the swivel fittings aren't just screwed it like the others but rather an integral part of the pump. That's nice!



The whole AIO without the fans.



The ubiquitous 38mm thick radiator. Appears to be 13FPI. I could be wrong though, if it's 13fpi that's good. It's definitely a silence optimized radiator but the use of Aluminum is a bit sad. It's a lot cheaper than copper radiators so if it's worth it we'll see later but just like all AIOs very rarely do you find a all copper AIO

It also has 120mm fan mounts



The 140mm fans themselves. Not shown is the front of the fan which has a good looking sticker with their logo on it. Okay sometimes it's gaudy but I like it with this one



Mounting hardware. Not clearly shown are the very special black chrome plated long thumbscrews for mounting the fans. 4 pieces of 30mm long screws and 8 pieces of 35mm long screws along with 4 pieces of black chrome plated short screws for mounting the AIO in case you don't have enough clearance for push-pull

That's a really extensive package for an AIO, don't even see such a massive package for a full blown XSPC RX120 radiator

Oh, for fan connections it comes with a 2 PWM fan splitter. Great. And some unknown thermal paste. Intel 775/1150/1155/1156/1366/2011 and AMD FM2 / FM1 / AM3+ / AM3 / AM2 hold down plates along with an metal back plate.

2011 doesn't need a back plate as most of you might know so it uses some 2 ended metal posts to screw the thumb nuts onto.

5) Benchmarks

All heatsinks and the AIO is mounted in the case for a more realistic result



Don't forget that the neptwin and lucifer has beaten normal 120mm AIOs so there you go :songdah2:





6) My thoughts and wrap up

Runs cool and silent. Earns a big thumb up from me ;) Definitely a must-pick-up if you're in the market looking for a silent and good AIO.



Pros :

Flexible tube

Big radiator

Silent pump

Pretty good performing fans

Solid mounting system

Good performance from an AIO



Cons :

Maybe ... Only fits in 140mm fan slots? Maybe ... the rifle bearing is a bit sad. But all these are small niggly nitpicks.
