Microsoft Lumia 1030 comes with a monstrous 50MP camera

It hasn’t been very long since Microsoft decided to drop the Nokia branding on its Lumia devices and so far the only device that has been announced with the Microsoft branding has been the Lumia 535 that was unveiled last month. However, we could see the first Microsoft Lumia flagship device get unveiled soon if the report from Nokiapoweruser is to be believed. The website has received a new tip from its regular tipster, who has shared some very interesting info about the upcoming Lumia 1030 (codenamed McLaren) smartphone. According to him the Lumia 1030 will come with a higher resolution camera than its predecessor and also sport a larger sensor. The Lumia 1020 had a 41MP camera with a 2/3” type CMOS camera sensor manufactured by Toshiba.

The camera sensor for the Lumia 1030 is also said to be manufactured by Toshiba. But instead of the Xenon flash that we saw on the Lumia 1020, the Lumia 1030 will apparently come equipped with a 4th generation short pulse LED flash at the back. Another big difference would be the inclusion of a mechanical shutter. The tipster hasn’t shared any other information about the smartphone, but a prototype Lumia 1030 did leak yesterday with live pictures and some very impressive specifications. The device that was pictured in the leak carried the model number RM-1052 and looks to be pretty similar to the Lumia 1020 design wise. The only apparent difference is the aluminum shell instead of polycarbonate that was used on its predecessor. The prototype features a 1080p AMOLED display of unknown size, a quad-core chipset, 2GB RAM and shows a similar hump at the back near the camera as the Lumia 1020.

Unfortunately no report so far has mentioned anything about the release date of the Lumia 1030. But we could expect the device to show up early next year at CES or MWC 2015.

Intel may power the next version of Google Glass

Google’s next iteration of Project Glass will purportedly run on Intel’s mobile offering.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the folks tinkering in Google’s lab will double up the amount of ram in its Glass gadget.* However, that’s not the only bit of interesting news about Google’s take on augmented reality.* Purportedly, Google is looking into using Intel as the main driving force for Project Glass.

Intel has been trying to crack the mobile nut for quite some time and with little success, but there’s an emerging trend in the wearable department and Intel is hoping that this is their Trojan horse.* We don’t know much about what Intel is cooking up for Google, but if battery life is of any concern we’re expecting the partnership to be built on energy consumption.

Google is aiming to turn Project Glass into a product that will enhance the work environment by having information available in front of people at all time.* Intel also took a stab at the wearable segment recently with the release of the MICA bracelet, but fashion was the primary focus.* The partnership between Google and Intel might usher in a new era in which products such as the Google Glass will last more than a day or two with average usage.

It’s an exciting time for gadget lovers, and products such as the smartwatches are bound to get better over times. *Lets hope we don’t have to wait around too long for these things to evolve and become consumer ready.

Puzzlephone: The three part modular smartphone

Circular Devices is working on a modular smartphone with three parts, drastically simplifying the concept brought up by companies like Google.

It’s called the Puzzlephone and it has three main parts.* The processing part contains the all-important CPU, the battery and secondary electronics, and of course the camera for all things selfies and sharing.* Unlike Google’s Project Ara, the Puzzlephone is something a lot of can cope with when it comes to replacing or upgrading parts.* Although the concept takes away a bit from the customization portion, often times simplicity helps make or break a project.



Circular Devices have already secured a significant amount of funding for its Puzzlephone project, and the phone may be available as early as the second half of 2015.* Google’s Android will be the OS of choice, so we’re not expecting Circular Devices to disrupt the mobile game in a drastic way.

Should the project actually take off and make a dent in the mobile universe, we would expect Circular Devices to put heavy emphasis on the Puzzlephone’s skeleton.* Meaning, we expect it to have a high end display that will the device the go to handset for years to come.* There’s no future proofing in the fast paced world of handsets, but it doesn’t hurt Circular Device to focus on the core features.

There are no exact pricings yet for the Puzzlephone.* However, there will be variations to choose from once Circular Devices is ready to release them.

Report pegs next Samsung flagships as the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge

The name of the next Galaxy S flagship should come as no surprise to anyone.



While it’s barely been two months since the Galaxy Note 4 went up for sale worldwide, rumors of the next Galaxy S flagship have already started swirling around on the internet. Earlier leaks have pointed out Samsung’s so-called Project Zero, an initiative to develop the next flagship from scratch; if that made some folks wonder if Samsung will also go with a new naming convention, then*the latest leak from the usually dependable SamMobile has the answer.

According to*SamMobile, the next Galaxy S flagship will be called the Galaxy S6, an unsurprising revelation given the immense popularity of the Korean manufacturer’s Galaxy S lineup. However, what’s interesting is that the Galaxy S6 is also expected to be accompanied by a curved screen variant called the Galaxy S6 Edge, similar to the Galaxy Note Edge. SamMobile doesn’t have details on anything but the name, but suggests the curved display on the S6 Edge will be similar to the one seen on the Galaxy Note Edge.

At such an early point in time, it’s always possible this info isn’t entirely accurate, but again, the Galaxy S6 is likely what Samsung will name its next hero device (unless the company decides the similarities to the name of the iPhone 6 is a bad thing for marketing.) It also remains to be seen if the Galaxy S6 Edge will see a worldwide release or be launched in limited quantities; likely the latter, and for good reason, given the nascent nature*of curved smartphone displays.
